Welcome to the new Project Management at CERN Blog

CERN is a project-driven organization, with projects of different sizes in different stages going on at the same time. Many of us manage or participate in these projects, and it is important to do that according to the recent knowledge and best practices.
But how do you become better in managing projects?

You can attend a theoretical course.

These courses will provide a theoretical framework and help you understand the different aspects of project management.

Is this sufficient? No. While useful, you also need to put what you have learned in the field of actual work. You’ll discover that you need to do things that none of the available theoretical courses can cover.

At CERN, we have created a CERN community of practice of project managers, with the aim to promote continuous learning through the sharing of experiences. This community, which counts today some 300 members, meets monthly at 16.30 to listen and exchange during 1 hour on project management practices.

The organizing team now enriches the possibility to share insights and experiences with a new blog and a new discussion forum.

The blog will be made up of short articles (a few minutes read) on a specific topic, with links to further reading for those interested to dig deeper into the subject. We count on the community to further enrich this blog – see here to know more on how to submit an article.

The mattermost channel extends this blog with a discussion forum, where one can also raise a question, with a view to obtain the input from colleagues project managers.

To become a member of this community and be kept informed, join our e-group.
